Launched the first ever Disabled Students’ Open Day:
Our Sabbs have been working with the University and the DRC to put together the first open day for disabled students considering applying to Cambridge. It’s a really exciting event taking place on Saturday 10th and 11th July for UK year 12 (or equivalent) students or mature students with a disability or long-term health condition. The online days will feature a mix of webinars, panel events and discussion delivered by University staff and current students. Huge win on Double Time Grade Release:
Finally, after 3 years of lobbying, the university has conceded that Double Time students should see their grades the year they sit their exams! Previously, those studying part time for health reasons had to wait 1-2 years or even more to see their results. Students have already begun to be informed of the change. Our DSO has been pushing for better consistency for students with extra time in exams:
In the run-up to exams, information on how to get the necessary extra time added onto longer and shorter exams was incredibly inconsistent. Rensa, our DSO worked with the University to make sure the information was consistent and available to all students who needed it. Students can apply for an Exam Allowance if their exam has been affected by illness or other grave cause, and if you’ve already taken your exam without the correct amount of extra time, you can also ask your Tutor to apply an Exam Warning / request a review. Student Led Teaching Awards Ceremony:
Our Access, Education and Participation Officers have worked so hard this year to put together an incredible SLTA ceremony this year despite the pandemic. The amount of nominations we received this year reflected the hard work and dedication staff members have put into teaching, supporting and enriching the lives of students despite all the disruptions we have faced. The ceremony was a wonderful event which allowed us to mark and thank them for all their work.
Support for student Rent Strikers:
As students have begun to rent strike this term, the SU has provided immediate advice and wellbeing support for those students who are striking. We have also been working with JCRs to ensure they are supported in their role facilitating any strikes happening in their colleges.You can follow the progress of the Rent Strike Campaign here.
