The Cheerleading Society is a competition team, tryouts are open to all who want to be part of a fun, challenging team sport!
The Cambridge University Cheerleading Society (Cambridge Lions) is open to everyone with enthusiasm and spirit. Cheerleading is a combination of stunting (lifts and throws), tumbling and dance that is easy to learn but requires strength, co-ordination and agility to master. We compete nationally, and in an annual Varsity against O*ford. Both are teams are very successful, being consistent Varsity champions! We have a Level 3 co-ed tumbling team ‘the Blues’ (the highest level a uni team can compete in the UK) and a Level 2 co-ed non-tumbling team ’Storm’, both placing consistently in the top 5 of their category at Nationals, and L2 being current national champions!
We also occasionally perform, both lowkey performances to friends and at the Varsities of other sports, such as American Football. Alongside competitions and performances, we hold regular socials which are great for team bonding and meeting people across the university in other sports teams.
We do not require any previous experience, but a background in dance or gymnastics is a bonus. We have a ‘pre-season’ taster session in the first week of term to teach you all the basics. Tryouts for both the first and second teams will also be held in the first week. We encourage anyone who might be interested to come along, we promise you’ll love it!
