About

The Cheerleading Society is open to all who want to be part of a fun, challenging team sport! We have competition teams as well as opportunities to try cheer out in a more relaxed environment.

The Cambridge University Cheerleading Society (Cambridge Cougars) is open to everyone with enthusiasm and spirit. Cheerleading is a combination of stunting (lifts and throws), tumbling and dance that is easy to learn but requires strength, co-ordination and agility to master. We mainly perform at regional and national competitions but also at a few events. The Cambridge Cougars have in the past been very successful! The first team have won 6 out of 8 Varsities so far and the seconds are the current champions! We have a level 3 co-ed team (the highest level a uni team can compete in the UK) and a level 1 all-girl team, both placing consistently in the top 5 of their category at Nationals! Some years we also have a dance pom team which placed 2nd at nationals in 2018. We do not require any previous experience, but a background in dance or gymnastics is a bonus! We will have a taster session in the first week of term to teach you all the basics. Tryouts for both the first and second teams will be held in the first week as well. If you don't want to commit to a team we also hold open sessions after our competition season towards the end of lent, and a Cuppers Competition in Easter which is open to all. Feel free to stop by, we promise you'll be hooked!!!
