Referendum on Formals Increase

Referendum on Formal Increase

Back

Referrendum on KCSU pushing for an additional formal at King's each week (for Michaelmas and Lent) which will be unthemed. This will be on a trial basis for the upcoming academic year.

A proposal has been made to increase the number of formals per week from 1 to 2 as part of the general MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to change how formals work between grads and undergrads. These extra formals would not be themed (as to not put an extra burden on the ents officers), and would not require gowns. They would also cost the exact same as the existing formals as decorations and ents for formals do not come out of ticket prices, but the KCSU budget.

The same number of guest tickets will be made available for these additional formals, but certain formals may be granted more guest tickets depending on free tickets once initial allocation is completed. These would provide more opportunities for people at other colleges to attend King’s formals. It should be again noted the formal ballot is entirely random and each formal is independently balloted. This means that the number of formals you have attended has no bearing on your likelihood for receiving a formal ticket.

This motion would allow KCSU to support this change in the planning round of the finance commitee. Any questions please contact Philip at: chair@kcsu.org.uk
