Girton Accommodation Officer Referendum

You must vote for or against the motion to change the JCR Constitution concerning the role of the Accommodation Officer. The changes will take the responsibility of running the Room Ballot away from the Accommodation Officer, which the JCR Committee believes should be performed by a paid member of College staff (namely the Accommodation Manager) as it went smoothly last year. This and other constitutional changes will make the role one of liaison between the JCR body and the College, presenting student needs to College and taking part in conversations about the future of Girton Accommodation while retaining ownership of JCR materials like the room database and room ranking duties.

Amend the Constitution concerning the role of Accommodation Officer

You must vote for or against the motion to change the JCR Constitution concerning the role of the Accommodation Officer. The changes will take the responsibility of running the Room Ballot away from the Accommodation Officer, which the JCR Committee believes should be performed by a paid member of College staff (namely the Accommodation Manager) as it went smoothly last year. This and other constitutional changes will make the role one of liaison between the JCR body and the College, presenting student needs to College and taking part in conversations about the future of Girton Accommodation while retaining ownership of JCR materials like the room database and room ranking duties. The JCR Committee hopes that this change will make the role more appealing to students because of the reduced workload.

The JCR Constitution currently reads:
"The role of the Accommodation Officer shall be as follows:
a. Run the annual Room Balloting process.
b. Represent student opinions on College accommodation, storage and facilities.
c. Arrange to meet the College Accommodation Officer every term.
d. Collect student feedback through the annual accommodation survey.
e. Follow and fulfil their role’s responsibilities as outlined both by this Constitution and the Role Description Addendum."

The proposed change will read:
"The role of the Accommodation Officer shall be as follows:
a. Support students and College during the annual Room Balloting process.
b. Represent student opinions on College accommodation, storage and facilities.
c. Arrange to meet the College Accommodation Officer every term.
d. Collect student feedback through the annual accommodation survey.
e. Follow and fulfil their role’s responsibilities as outlined both by this Constitution and the Role Description Addendum.
f. Participate in College discussions over future plans and changes to Accommodation."
