Fujian White Crane (FWC) is a complete fighting system which incorporates fighting principles to suit every body-type and personality. It is a realistic self-defence system which does not rely on brute strength for its effectiveness. Classes cover all aspects of training, self defence and weapons and are ideal for beginners regardless of fitness as well as those who wish to train in another sport too. Because of its complexity, the system is often known as a scholar's style, suitable for students who wish to take their skill to the highest possible level.
All beginners are welcome to join anytime throughout the year. No experience required.
Our kung fu is a 'hard', external style. Stances are low and powerful, while the torso generates power for fast and free-movement of the arms and shoulders. The particularly elegant and expressive hand and wrist movements are characteristic of all traditional White Crane styles.
Meanwhile our Tai Chi is 'soft', based on an extended pattern called “Bai He Rou Ruan Quan”, which is translated as “White Crane Frost and Sun Fist”. Its emphasis is on developing a stable, balanced stance, flexible torso and elegant, precise hand movements.
The Crane is a Chinese symbol of happiness and longevity and Crane style exercises are renowned in China for improving the general wellbeing of the practitioner. As well as developing all muscle groups, FWC Kung Fu increase flexibility, improve lung capacity, strengthen the joints and increase bone density. There is much more to this style than fighting.
FWC's style is acknowledged part of the White Crane System of Kung Fu. Our Instructor, Karim has been teaching Tiger-Crane Kung Fu and Suang Yang Tai Chi for over 21 years. He holds 4th Dan from the Chinese Wushu Association, has an honours degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council. He holds a level 7 qualification in Chinese Herbal Medicine, which is equivalent to a Master’s Degree and he is also a qualified personal trainer and sports therapist. Karim in 2019 was given instructorship for Yong Chun Bai He Chuan by Teacher Su Yinghan.
