The Student-Led Teaching Awards (SLTAs) exist to reward outstanding teaching and student support across Cambridge University and its Colleges, and have gone from strength to strength since their inception, becoming widely respected throughout the University. They are a unique opportunity for students to recognise the exceptional contribution of teaching and non-teaching staff to their education at Cambridge, and to highlight the kinds of teaching and support that they value and would like to see more of.
The SLTAs are entirely led by students, and rely only on the feedback and testimonials of students here at Cambridge University. If you have experienced outstanding teaching or pastoral care, this is your chance to thank and acknowledge that person.
There's only one way for lecturers, supervisors, porters, tutors, nurses and other staff at Cambridge to win one of these awards, and that's through you!
Thank you for all your Nominations!
The Student-Led Teaching Awards is one the best parts of our jobs, and we want as many students and staff to be involved as possible. At Cambridge SU we spend a lot of time focusing on problems, intervening when things aren’t going so well for students or your education. So it’s incredibly rewarding to celebrate staff who have gone above and beyond to support and empower their students. This year we recieved nearly 500 nominations!
What our past winners say:
“The Student Led Teaching Awards is a really special initiative because it is organised and run entirely by students. I feel enormously privileged and I'm extremely grateful to everyone — past and present— who make the Student-Led Awards happen." - Andrew Sanger 2022 Winner Small-Group Teaching (Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences)
"It was such an honour to be nominated for a Student-Led Teaching Award. The fact that these awards are completely student organised and led, makes the recognition even more special." Jodi Gardner 2022 Winner Working in Partnership with Students
The Awards Process
The SLTAs are led by the Cambridge SU Access, Education and Participation Officers, Neve and Savannah. Once nominations close, we start the judging process. There are two sets of student panels: shortlisting, and then awarding. During the shortlisting process we’ll aim to make sure everyone is in the right category and whittle down the nominations to just those who were the most impressive. This is the hardest part, as there are always very few nominations that aren’t impressive! The awarding panel will then look through the shortlists for each category, choosing a winner and a few high commendations.
Awards will be presented at a ceremony in May.
