About

Luminomelia is a interdisciplinary philosophy society which puts an emphasis on discussion and ducks. Our events are entirely free to attend, and everybody is welcome!

We are Cambridge's largest philosophy society, open to anybody who has an interest in the connections between philosophy and other disciplines. Our members tend to be an eclectic mix from every subject across the university, and our talks assume no prior philosophical knowledge. We place an emphasis on discussion - most of our events consist of a short talk (~15 minutes) followed by an hour of round table discussion. We also organise longer format talks given by lecturers here at the university or external speakers. Our events span a wide range of subjects, including philosophy of science, politics, ethics, epistemology, cognitive science, and psychedelics. If you have an interest in philosophy, you're sure to find something that appeals to you!

For Michaelmas Term 2021, we will be running two series of events:

On Friday evenings we will be holding a series of discussion groups on the theme "Science and Society." These will take place in person, between 19:30-21:00 at the Lightfoot Room in the Old Divinity School opposite St John's College
