About

Cambridge University Gliding Club offers students an affordable way to experience the thrill of sailing in the sky. Most members start with no flying experience and many fly solo within a year!

Gliding is flight in its purest form, soaring upward on unseen currents of air and racing for hundreds of miles across the countryside. CUGC offers students an affordable way to experience the thrill of sailing in the sky. Most members start with no flying experience and can fly solo within a year of training.

You will train with fully qualified instructors in two-seat gliders and then progress to sleek single-seat aircraft. CUGC members compete in competitions, including a Varsity Match against Oxford, where team members may attain a Half Blue in Gliding. CUGC organise trips to other gliding clubs in the Yorkshire Moors, the Lake District, and the mountains of Wales and Scotland over the vacations, a brilliant opportunity to travel the country and experience unique views from the skies above.

CUGC operates from Gransden Lodge Airfield, 11 miles West of Cambridge, and is affiliated with Cambridge Gliding Centre and the British Gliding Association.
