Your Sabbatical Officers have been busy working on lots of different projects this past month, here's a look at some of Cambridge SU's wins during April...
NUS Conferences
The SU was well-represented at both NUS Liberation and National Conferences, which are events held over several days to bring together student campaigners from across the UK. Our SU delegates brought a policy motion to National Conference on taking a preventative approach to solving the student mention health crisis, which was successfully passed by Conference Delegates.
Women’s Campaign Extraordinary Forum
The Women’s Campaign voted in favour of a consultation proposal to review the current wording adopted to define campaign membership. This process came out of consultation with women’s officers and liberation representatives from across the University, and provides an opportunity for students to have their say on SU representative spaces. The process included three focus groups and a survey answered by over 150 campaign members. The findings of this process will be presented in a forum on Tuesday 11/05 (make sure to attend!).
Office for Students consultation on Access and Participation Plans
Sabbatical officers consulted with the university and with students from specific target groups about the university’s APP, which describes how the university is doing on access to university and success at and beyond university for different groups of students. This involved productive discussions with the university about how they could improve their activities and better support student-led outreach work.
Diversifying Assessment
Our survey on student views of Diversifying Assessment got over 400 responses, which will be formulated into a report to be included in the university’s roadmap for the future of assessment. We presented the initial findings at the Diversifying Assessment Forum, run by Cambridge Centre for Teaching and Learning.
Resist the Restructuring of the Cambridge University Endowment Fund (CUEF)
The SU has successfully campaigned alongside students and staff to encourage Regent House members to resist the restructuring of the CUEF. We have managed to stop the restructuring, making a huge statement that the University community will not accept any move to make the University's investments less transparent or democratic. More on this to come....!
Launch of #Justice4CollegeSupervisors
The SU and UCU have launched the #Justice4CollegeSupervisors campaign, demanding fair pay and conditions for hourly-employed college supervisors. The campaign has three main demands: fair pay for all hours worked, paid training and secure contracts. The SU has been standing in full solidarity with casualised staff and working with the University to push for all of these demands.
