Overview

In the wake of Professor Arday’s passing, Cambridge SU and Black-led student societies across Cambridge invite all Black students at the University to an open dialogue with University leadership.

This will be a space to reflect on the realities of the institutional racism faced by Black students at Cambridge, and ensure Black student voice for change is heard by University administration.

There is no expectation to share anything you are not comfortable with. Welfare support will be available from the SU BME Advisor and the HVSS Racial Discrimination Advisor.

Agenda

6pm-6:15pm: Arrival and introductions

6:15pm-6:45pm: Student-led discussion of the Black student experience at Cambridge.

6:45pm-7:30pm: Professor Arday: reflections on Institutional responsibility, facilitated by Cambridge SU Sabbs and Black student societies.

7:30-8pm: Questions to the Pro-Vice Chancellor, and identifying concrete actions & next steps.

8pm: Close.

This Town Hall is an open space for grief, discussion, and asking difficult questions - all perspectives are welcome, and welfare staff will be available throughout the evening. We also hope to use this space to look towards change; we ask everyone to consider what actions, commitments, & institutional changes you would like to see, and how we can work towards a better future for Black scholars.
