The Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) plays a crucial role in ensuring the fairness and equality of the Cambridge SU elections by providing an objective perspective on all decisions made during the electoral process. The DRO will oversee important information, including the election timetable and briefings, and will have the authority to recommend improvements to the Union's democratic practices.
A key responsibility of this role is to handle any complaints regarding the election proceedings and to communicate the outcomes, notices, and resolutions related to those complaints effectively.
The successful role holder will need to be available to make decisions and rulings throughout the election period. The role holder must remain impartial at all times on matters involving the SU elections. A full breakdown of the role can be found in the SU by-laws, By-law 8, p.38.
