About

The Cambridge public speaking society was founded in July 2026, for anyone who wants to improve their public speaking. The society includes bi-weekly events comprising practical workshops and opportunities to practise speaking, a mentorship scheme connecting experienced and aspiring speakers, and public speaking competitions for members who are looking to really challenge themselves.

Launch event

The society will be officially launched at 4-5pm on Sunday 25th October (location tbc), featuring a national public speaking competition champion as our first guest speaker. This will be followed by 30 minutes of hybrid elections where we select the new Executive Committee and decide on a regular meeting timeslot. You are welcome to leave before elections but you would forfeit your ability to vote.

Join the Executive Committee

Joining the Committee is a great way to build your confidence as a speaker while helping to create a supportive and inspiring community. Please apply through the form on the Linktree by Friday 16 October. Candidate manifestos will be shared with the mailing list and elections will take place at 5-5:30pm on Sunday 25 October in a hybrid format. No prior public speaking experience is required, you just need to be enthusiastic about improving your public speaking and able to dedicate some time to supporting the society. Committee members and mentors will be prioritised for speaking opportunities.

Join the mentorship scheme

Apply through our Linktree to join the public speaking mentorship scheme as a mentor or mentee. If you are a fairly confident speaker, don't hesitate in challenging yourself and becoming a mentor. This is a very rewarding way to develop your skills by helping others to improve and push themselves out of their comfort zones, to contribute to building a supportive community, and to prove your public speaking expertise on your CV.

Membership

Everyone's first event will be free, then membership will be £10 for the academic year, to contribute towards our venue and speakers' transport costs. Details on how to become a member will be circulated on the 25th October, on the day of our official launch event and elections.
