Regular Sessions: 2025–2026
Information on regular sessions for next year will be written here.
Why are we not (yet) listed as a Sport *club*?
We have just launched our society from scratch in April 2025. As a new society, we are not entitled yet to be a club, which means that we don't get access to the Sports Fair or to certain grants. We only get to be considered for club application by the end of 2026. Does not seem fair? Then sign our petition (link soon)! Apart from this technicality, we are a fully functional sports society and aim to provide 2-3 sessions of week of pure Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Coaches
We have a variety of coaches that are extremely talented as well as being super enthusiastic. We are organising sessions with Stan Janis (Karate prodigy as well as BJJ champion) and Luke Flower (Founder of Bristol University BJJ club and BJJ champion).
Luke Flower
BJJ experience
I’m a black belt under Roger Gracie and have over 15 years of training and coaching experience. I began training and competing in MMA in 2007 as part of the Trojan Free Fights team, before starting medical school at Bristol, where I co-founded the university’s BJJ club. I’ve been fortunate to train and coach around the world, and after moving to London to start working clinically, I began training with Roger and his dad, Mauricio Gomes. I’m now a PhD student at the university, coached the MMA team last year, and am excited to help grow the uni BJJ team!
Favourite submission
Bow and arrow choke for sure!
Outside jiu-jitsu:
If I’m not battling cells in the lab or working in the ICU, you’ll usually find me weight training, eating my way through East London with my husband, or brainstorming ways to get a dog while living in a London flat.

Stan Janis
BJJ journey
I began my martial arts journey in the Czech Republic, where I trained in karate and aikido and even represented my country at an international level. Upon relocating to Vienna, I transitioned to new disciplines, delving into MMA and Muay Thai. I trained alongside Mairibek Taisumov, a fighter who would later compete in the UFC. After moving to Cambridge, I continued my MMA training at the now-legendary Tsunami Gym, a club known for producing two UFC fighters: John Maguire and Luke Barnatt. My path took an unexpected turn when I tried a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) class under Leo Gamarra. From that point on, I committed to BJJ, and found a second home at Brazilian Top Team Cambridge.
Outside jiu-jitsu:
I love to travel and bushcraft. Hitchhiking and camping with my own tent are among my favourite things: I have visited many countries doing this 🙂

Committee
President Timothy
This friendly scientist never stops. Whether it's for dancing, triathlon, taekwondo or BJJ, just expect him to be there.

Treasurer
Emilie is a judo-BJJ enthusiast. She started both sports as an undergraduate at UWarwick and is forever deeply thankful to her wonderful coaches and mates 😉If she can inspire others in the same way that her friends inspired her, that would be pretty amazing.
Favourite warmup
The lost art of belt-hockey. It basically consists of taking your gi belt off and tying the belt up in a knot. Then with the help of a ball and two teams, you use this interesting hockey-belt-stick to hit the ball.
Random facts
She looooooves good food.

Our current committee is looking for new recruits! We are especially desperate for a social secretary, a secretary and a marketing officer. Contact us via email if you are interested!
