About

Cambridge Zero Carbon Society is a student campaigning group promoting climate justice issues and divestment within the University of Cambridge.

Cambridge Zero Carbon Society is a student campaigning group promoting climate justice issues and divestment within the University of Cambridge. We started in 2007 as a group concerned about climate change and we relaunched in 2015 mainly focused around divestment. The University of Cambridge has £377 million of its endowment fund invested in fossil fuels and for the past 5 years the society has been calling for that money to be transferred away from extractive industries that are causing devastation to communities around the world, particularly in the global south. On October 1st 2020, the University committed to full divestment by 2030. This decision followed years of campaigning by Zero Carbon and others around Cambridge, and is long overdue. We will continue to campaign for the University the push this date forward and to cut its wider links with the fossil fuel industry.
