We are volunteers trained by the ambulance service to attend the most serious 999 calls, such as cardiac arrests, in the minutes before an ambulance arrives. Every minute matters in an emergency, and a trained responder nearby can make the difference between life and death.
What does the Society do?
The First Responder Society gives Cambridge students the chance to train and volunteer as Community First Responders with the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST), responding to real 999 calls across the city alongside their studies. The Society coordinates, promotes, and ensures continuity of this extracurricular initiative within the University. Alongside this, we run talks, training sessions, and outreach events open to anyone interested in emergency care, medicine, or community health.
