About

In 1928, the Newnham Arts Society invited Virginia Woolf to address the college on 'Women and Fiction,' a talk that would later form the basis for A Room of One’s Own. Since then, the society has aimed to host a diverse programme of events, featuring renowned speakers from across the arts.

In 2024, the Newnham Arts Society has been revived. In 2025, we have changed our name to CUSWA (Cambridge University Society for Women in the Arts). We host OPEN-TO-ALL talks, screenings, exhibitions and concerts featuring the works of women artists across art, film, literature and music.
