Statement on the Invasion of Ukraine

We are horrified by recent developments in Ukraine and want to assure Ukrainian students that we stand with them at this dangerous and uncertain time. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a violation of the sovereignty of the Ukrainian people; we condemn this brazen act of imperialism and the human suffering it will bring. Our thoughts are with the forty people whose lives have already been claimed by this act of war, and all those who will be affected if this crisis continues to escalate.

As a Students’ Union, our priority is ensuring the safety of our student community. We would encourage anyone in need of support to get in touch with our Students Advice Service to receive confidential, free and impartial advice. Our team of trained advisors will do their absolute best to help in any way they are able to.

For those looking to show active solidarity, we would encourage you to attend the protest organised by Cambridge University Ukrainian Society at 6pm today (Thursday 24th February) on King’s Parade (facebook.com/events/287592403476633). This will be a chance to learn more about the practical ways we can support the Ukrainian community, but for those unable to attend, we will be creating a resource bank for more information and ways to donate to those impacted by war directly.

We are meeting with Cambridge University Ukrainian Society tomorrow to agree on common action we can take to support those affected.
