As Michaelmas Term comes to an end, here is an update on what our Vice President (Student Community & Societies) Olivia Ledger has been working on this year, plus some updates of what’s to come next term!
Michaelmas Updates:

Launched a joint project with the University - the Student Volunteering Fair - which had 16 local groups attending and 90 student attendees

Compiled a Room Booking Guide, spanning all colleges, University sites, SU lounge, the Sports Centre, and local hotels, which will be released in December

Working with several collegiate staff on a Winter activities project for students who are remaining in Cambridge over the winter holidays - if this is of interest to you, please send me an email

Launched Leadership training alongside the activities team on How to Lead a Society Committee

Launched an Open Letter with President (UG) Matthew for our students in Gaza, which received 220 sabbatical officer signatures from 77 SUs nationwide

Led the YES campaign for NUS disaffiliation in the recent SU Referendum
Next terms priorities:

Lobbying the colleges for societal storage space over the Long Vacation

Setting up a societies’ forum or committee, in which to engage with and hear from society presidents, and allow them to shape my role’s priorities

Running rent negotiation training for JCRs and setting up a renters’ corner on the SU website

Running online events for students away from Cambridge, to help them feel part of our student community

Lobbying the University for work extensions for students with Sports or Music commitments

Setting up an online space to display and promote volunteering opportunities and civic events to students on the SU website
