Elleni's Updates & Achievements

Featured news

This term, I have been working to improve the overall welfare for students at Cambridge. Below are some of my achievements over the past term.

1. What’s On Calendar: Improving Engagement
Throughout Lent Term I have worked to improve the number of students using the What’s On Calendar on the Cambridge SU website. I have been doing this through sharing a help guide on my Welfare social media account and giving out information flyers to societies at Refreshers Fair.

2. Week Against Racism
Working alongside End Everyday Racism, Cambridge UCU, and Maroof (our BME Officer), I  contributed to the planning of the Week Against Racism events. As part of this, I held a day-long series of three workshops covering allyship, the somatics of anti-discrimination, and decolonising the mind and body.

3. Injunction Court Case Evidence
I worked alongside Maroof, advocating for the rights of student protestors with input from over ten stakeholders. I also put together a statement that was used as evidence in the injunction court case.

4. Prioritising Welfare in the Recruitment of Porters
I have written a template recruitment pack for college porters which emphasises their welfare responsibilities and am currently in the process of seeking feedback from J/MCRs on this.

5. Street Lighting in Cambridge
To improve safety in Cambridge, I have been working to gather data on street lighting in Cambridge through a student survey with the aim of presenting findings to Cambridge City Council.

6. Stakeholder Panels Participation
I have been participating in stakeholder panels for the development of UCARMHSS (University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin Mental Health Student Service), ensuring the student voice is represented.

7. Welfare Forum
To find out more about the welfare issues students are facing, I held a Welfare Forum for J/MCR Welfare Officers, where I also offered support to individuals in these roles.

8. Easter Term: What’s to Come!
I am ready to go for next term, and am currently planning lots of engaging events including a drugs education exhibition and admin afternoons.
