About Me

Hello! I’m Adam, and yes, my beard is dyed blue in the picture – it’s a long story. I am a 2nd year Theology student and an avid Fitz-enjoyer. Anyways, I am going to cut straight to the chase and present to you why I am the best person for this important position. Coming from both a BME and state school (non-selective) background I have first-hand experience in facing all the issues and tackling all the anxieties of applying to Cambridge. I wish to contribute to people from underrepresented backgrounds to feel more comfortable and confident with the process, re-enforcing the very foundation of why this great college was built in the first place.

My experience

  • Current Isoc (Islamic Society) Fitzwilliam College rep: Involved with creating the Fitz college page on the Isoc website – in an attempt to encourage more applications from people from a Muslim background.

  • Current Research Director for the Cambridge Development Initiative (CDI): Tasked with researching sustainable development tactics and liaising with a partner NGO in Tanzania and potentially writing a paper on the organisations impact in Tanzania’s development.

  • Involvement in Delegoat Outreach: Recently tasked with providing a taster session to Y11 students, and a Q&A Session.

My aims and objectives

  • Create a Fitzwilliam JCR Tik Tok and work towards generating a more well-known social media presence for the college.

  • Widen participation in ALL underrepresented groups, through school visits more specific and frequent outreach events.

  • Create an access page on the Fitzwilliam website, with resources directed at supporting potential applicants from underrepresented backgrounds.

Ultimately, my ideas can and will be adapted and improved through my interaction with members of the college. In this way I emphasise the importance of communication with the undergraduate body, JCR and the wider college team.

I hope I have displayed to you my ability to transform this space in the JCR and warmly invite your esteemed vote.

All the best,

Adam Safi
