Hello!

I'm Alex, a first year geography student here at Fitz.

I have many years of experience campaigning on environmental and climate issues, which I hope to bring to the role of Environmental Officer. Before coming to Cambridge, I have been involved in numerous local climate action groups, where I have been involved in campaigning, organising surveys and planning policy. As head boy at my secondary school and sixth form, I ran a number of environment and climate initiatives, such as: eliminating plastic packaging in the school canteen, organising an eco-fair and signing my sixth form up to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

As your JCR environmental officer, I hope to continue Adam's great work and further improve the environmental sustainability of Fitz and Cambridge University more widely. I will do this by introducing systemic changes, including improvements to energy efficiency and lowering the environmental footprint of the buttery, as well as making change on an individual level more accessible, such as by organising talks and workshops in college.

In addition, I will strengthen networks with environmental officers at other colleges to bring about reform to Cambridge University as a whole. I will also build connections with community action groups outside the university. Cambridge has a huge diversity of different community action groups and I believe we have an incredible opportunity to collaborate with these groups for the mutual benefit of both sides. For instance, I have already been in contact with Cambridge Greenpeace, who have expressed a keen interest in getting more involved with the university.
