Candidate for the position of Cymdeithas Y Mabinogi (Welsh Society) - Is Llywydd / Vice President

Talulah Thomas

Haia bawb :)

I’m Talulah (she/they), a History student from North Wales going into my second year at Newnham College.

My first year experience at Cambridge was really enriched by the social events put on by Cymdeithas y Mabinogi. I’d love the opportunity to work with this year’s committee members to ensure incoming freshers have the best time in a warm and welcoming environment. I would support the Llywydd by helping to organise providing freshers with mentors from second and third year. The buddy system will work in order to ensure that everyone can feel that all important sense of ‘home’ and belonging. I’d be excited to get involved in organising Mabinogi socials, formals and potential Welsh language gigs in Cambridge - really putting WelshSoc on the map! Additionally, I’d be keen to work with the committee to hold insightful speakers events, q&a’s and workshops with Welsh activists, creatives and collectives. I would fulfill this goal by ensuring that accurate and equal representation for all students from Wales is exemplified in our decision making around the more formal events.

My involvement in the youth-led exhibition at St Fagans Museum in Cardiff, called 'The Future Has a Past' has allowed me to expand on my curatorial and team leading skills. I also sit on the Youth Advisory Board for Ty Pawb, a community arts center based in Wrexham, which is a project that fits with my personal principles of maintaining a sense of community and prioritising mutual care within the arts. My two year role as Welsh Youth Parliamentarian for Clwyd South and as the 2019 Delegate for Wales at the CYP Conference in New Delhi provided me with ample experience of representing people’s needs.

Diolch and c u all this yr for more lush Welsh energy :)
