Hello, my name is Charlie, and I am very excited to be running for the role of Class Act Officer on the JCR! I come from a working-class background, attending my local comprehensive school in Hillingdon, West London with no programs in place for getting students into Oxbridge. Therefore, I am very invested in equal access, demystification of the Cambridge experience, and empowerment of people who may feel out of place at this university.
I am a history student in my second year, so by now I am confident that I have a good understanding of college life and the JCR system. As Fitzwilliam History Society President, I am used to planning events such as documentary nights, student-fellow drinks, and formals, equipping me well for the demands of the role. Last year, confusion around the Class Act office meant that unfortunately there were not many events or presence within the JCR, and I will endeavour to change that.
As Class Act Officer, I hope to be a voice for underprivileged students from a range of backgrounds, and someone you can depend on if ever you need advice or just someone to talk to. Possible events may include socials (pizza nights, formals, etc.) and community action. I hope to work closely with the outreach and school liaison teams to maintain Fitzwilliam’s reputation as an inclusive college.
I will do my very best to be deserving of your votes!
Fitzbilly love,
Charlie
