Why I should be your next Women’s/NB welfare officer! 

  • I’m Krystyna Lazaro, and I am a 2nd year PBS student at Fitz 

  • I have an academic interest/ background in children and adults' mental health 

  • Experience as a JCR committee member – as Ents officer I built on my organisational skills and gained an understanding of how the JCR runs 

  • On-call supervisor at a tutoring company – extensive safeguarding training and experience in tackling situations where active listening and empathy was imperative 

  • I want to make welfare resources accessible, increase feedback collection, and plan inclusive events 

Increase social media engagement  

  • Revive @fitzjcrwelfare Instagram  

  • Signpost welfare resources e.g. Fitz Wellbeing coordinator (Angeline Lee – al2226), university counselling services, student mind, nightline etc 

  • Signpost events, including relevant talks on topics related to mental health and wellbeing in other departments 

  • Try to get mental health professionals for Q&As/ panel discussions in Fitz 

  • Have polls on the story to get constant feedback on welfare initiatives and post stories to increase engagement with events 

Freshers' week  

  • Take on feedback as a committee on how overwhelming the fresher’s week was  - work with college to reduce the number of compulsory lectures 

  • Have a JCR committee member present at every JCR associated fresher’s event, particularly those that involve alcohol  

  • Non-alcohol related events e.g. cafe crawl, mocktail night, book club social  

Appreciation Week  

  • Have weekly spotlights on the work of different JCR committee members to show them appreciation  

  • Week 4 initiative to boost community wellbeing  

  • Pass it forward initiative – Do a random act of kindness, send it in to the Instagram page, and get entered a raffle for free cinema tickets 

  • Appreciation board in the Olisa/ JCR – people can leave post-it notes on the board/ submit entries onto an Instagram story which can be shared 

Collaborations & More Events 

  • Collaborate with other hill college welfare events e.g. Churchill’s tea x Fitz weekly doughnut drop-in (fan-favourite) 

  • Collaborate with Fitz Art Soc e.g. Friendship bracelet making, Mug-painting, get an Art therapist to run a session 

  • Fitzwelfare x Fitzents – Pub quizzes to raise money for charities (charity chosen by you, related to MH and wellbeing) 

  • Exam term

  • Study socials/ Picnics/ Jack’s gelato/ Botanical gardens trips
