About

Sing Inside delivers group singing workshops in prisons, connecting volunteers drawn from the University and the local community with their local prison communities.

Sing Inside delivers group singing workshops in prisons, connecting volunteers drawn from the local community with their local prison communities. Our workshops use musical learning to build confidence, break down social stigma and create and strengthen communities.

Group singing has a unique power to build trust and understanding, which in turn helps us challenge our preconceptions. We believe in the power of shared humanity, and that we can all learn, grow and develop by engaging meaningfully with others.

Sing Inside has its roots in Cambridge and started in 2014 by running visits to HMP Bedford through the Faculty of Music's Cambridge Education and Outreach Programme (CamEO). In 2016, Sing Inside was officially formed in Cambridge as a student society. In 2017, an Executive Committee was formed to manage expansions into Oxford, York and Stafford. In 2019, Sing Inside became a registered charity (no.1182678).
