Why you should run to be the Women's Officer

This October we are running a By-Election to fill the role of Women’s Officer at the SU. The successful candidate will join the current Sabbatical Officer team this Academic year. There are many things to look forward to in this role and plenty of CV worthy achievements to be made. 

Please note, this is a full-time fixed-term job, with a pro-rata salary of £24,659 per annum. You will be required to intermit and begin the role as soon as possible following the confirmation of election results, if you are unable to intermit, you will not be eligible to take up the post. Please enquire with your supervisor or a member of academic staff about the possibility of intermission before putting yourself forward for the role, we can also arrange a call about this if needed. If you are the successful candidate, you will receive induction and training once your employment has begun.

Previous Women’s Officer achievements: 

  • Created the ‘ Support for sex workers guide’ 

  • Took the lead on the annual Cambridge Reclaim the Night march 

  • Ran a successful campaign for an increase in street lighting around Cambridge particularly in areas with student accommodation 

 

Sabb campaigns you could be involved in: 

  • Campaign for Active Bystander Intervention Training for incoming freshers and club representatives

  • Campaign for standardised tutor training

  • Campaign for free movement into and through Colleges for students

 

Some committees you will sit on: 

  • Gender Equality Steering Group

  • Purple Flag Committee

  • Standing Joint Committee on Childcare for Students

A sabbatical Officers role within a University Committee is to be the voice of Students and advocate on behalf of them. 

SU Women’s Campaign: 

  • Take a leadership role in the Women’s Campaign, in keeping with its constitution. This includes coordinating the campaign and representative work,  as well as chairing Campaigns Forum.
