Join us for the annual Student Members' Meeting, where every student has a vote!

Unlike Student Council, all students are entitled to vote on items that come to Student Members', so make your voice heard! This meeting gives students full transparency into the SU's budget, accounts and affiliations, giving students a chance to ask questions and comment about these items.

This meeting is for student members of the University of Cambridge. You will only be admitted into the meeting if you are logged in using a University crsid@cam.ac.uk email address. No guest accounts or unverified accounts will be admitted as we need to be able to confirm attendees are students. You will enter the lobby first and then be admitted. Attendance will be noted through Teams but not published. Voting will be done through Microsoft Forms. See below for voting links.

Quorum for the meeting is typically 100 student members. Where this is the second Student Members' Meeting, if the meeting does not reach a minimum of 100 members by 6.30pm, we will proceed with the meeting and adjust quorum according to those attending.

Anyone attending is not permitted to take pictures, videos or audio recordings during the meeting.

- Budget and accounts:
  - The budget proposal from the Trustee Board. Students are able to make recommendations to the Trustee Board during this section. The Budget will show what the SU is planning to spend in 2026/27.
  - The audited accounts of the Students’ Union for 2024/25.
  - Mid-year review of spending against the 2025/26 budget.

Following the business from Student Members' Meeting, we will move into Student Council business. Any student can get involved with discussions and debates, only Student Council voting members are eligible to vote.

Student Council Easter 1

All students are welcome to come to Student Council to propose, debate motions and contribute to discussions. Each College, School and Student Representative Group has voting members who represent their constituencies.

Council usually takes place in term time, at 6.30pm. There will be two council meetings in Michaelmas and Lent, and one meeting in Easter.

If joining online, please use your University crsid@cam.ac.uk Microsoft account. No guest accounts will be admitted as we need to be able to confirm attendees are students and voting members. You will enter the lobby first and then be admitted. The Teams link will be emailed to voting members.

The Student Council is made up of elected representatives. These are:

The five Cambridge SU Sabbatical Officers
2 representatives per College of the University; 1 for each J/MCR except where there is only one common room in a college
2 Academic Representatives per School of the University; 1 Undergraduate and 1 Postgraduate
12 Liberation Reps from the Executive Committee; 1 Undergraduate and 1 Postgraduate

Proposing Motions

Motions passed at Student Council direct the work of the SU. You just need a proposer and a seconder to send a motion to Student Council for discussion, and any student can do it. If you’d like to know more about the format of Council motions, or have other questions about submitting one, email chair@cambridgesu.co.uk. You can also view an example motion for guidance.

Debates and Amendments

After a motion is introduced by its proposer, there is an opportunity for questions about it and debate. Amendments to motions can be submitted in advance of the meeting. More detail about this is available in the by-laws Chapter 1.

Substantial amendments must be submitted to chair@cambridgesu.co.uk by noon on the day of the Council meeting, except in the case of amendments to emergency motions which may be submitted up until the start of the meeting.

Access Statement

There is step-free and wheelchair access via the lift. There is a variety of padded seating, an accessible toilet, and a gender-neutral toilet on the third floor accessible via the lift. There isn't a hearing loop, a BSL interpreter, general car parking, or blue badge parking. If joining via Teams, individuals are able to turn on automated live captions. Contributions will be accepted out loud, the chat function will be turned off, and you are free to attend with camera/microphone off.
